Today I’m using my own anniversary to help inspire you to follow your dreams and double down on your goals even during these uncertain times.
A quote commonly attributed to Mark Twain goes something like this: “ Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do .”
Back when I was a “full time” physical education teacher and selling real estate “part time”, this quote resonated with me. Though I was very successful in real estate as a part-time agent and had just started our coaching and consulting company, many family members were urging me to stay in education.
I struggled with the decision, but decided to ride the momentum we had been building with my first product, called the Ultimate Listing Blueprint. I’ve never regretted following my passions ten years ago because I’m an entrepreneur at heart.
On the 10-year anniversary of me following my passion, I want to encourage you to step outside of your comfort zone. We are about one-fourth of the way through 2020, and I want to know how you’re doing with your goals so far.

What is your environment like? Who are you surrounding yourself with? One of my favorite movies is “Shawshank Redemption,” and I’ll never forget this line: “Get busy living or get busy dying.” It always comes down to a choice, and so I encourage you to keep living and thriving. Don’t get caught up in the monotony. If your environment is holding you back, change it.
Though the news headlines are being dominated by Corona virus, along with other dizzying world events and topics, don’t lose sight of the fact that interest rates are great and life keeps happening. People are getting married, they’re downsizing, and they’re relocating. Don’t let the doom and gloom of the media drag you down. Capitalize on these low rates.
I recently just got back from Mexico, where I helped Keller Williams Mexico launch their luxury division. Stay focused on your goals and be committed to them. Imagine if, on your gravestone, instead of it just listing your birthday and date of death, it also listed the amount of lives you affected. What would that look like for you? Work hard, and build others up.
Here’s another reminder now that the election year is heating up: When asked why he never talked about politics, Michael Jordan once said, “Because Republicans buy sneakers too.” In a recent “Luxury Listing Specialist” podcast episode, I talk about the fact that both Democrats and Republicans buy large houses, so it’s also wise for us Realtors to avoid politics. Don’t alienate half of your database.
